Stewart Arnold has called for a final push in the campaign to support Party Deputy Leader Chris Whitwood’s bid to win Doncaster’s Town Ward by-election.
The Party Leader has written to members to ask for support in the election leafleting exercise this weekend (June 9 and 10, 2018). The poll is just a few days later, on Thursday, June 14.
“This is undoubtedly the best organised campaign we have had in the Party’s short history. I’ve been delivering leaflets with folk from Leeds, Rotherham, Sheffield and even one who had driven over from Lancashire to support us.
“Everywhere, we have been met with positive feedback as people like our message to have people in Yorkshire deciding their own priorities on things like transport and education. I know that, with help, we can win the seat.” he says in his e-mail to members.
“I would urge everyone who can to get down there this weekend and help. Winning the seat will be a game changer for the party and for Yorkshire devolution.” he adds.

The youngest party deputy leader in the country came close to snatching a seat in the ward from Labour at last year’s local elections. Chris got 1,195 votes, just a few hundred behind the third-elected labour candidate.
In his latest e-mail, Stewart says: “We are in with a very good chance of going one better and winning the seat.
“It would be a great result for us because it would show that we could challenge the two major parties and win; just at a time when people in Yorkshire are desperate for a credible alternative to May and Corbyn. If we can win in Labour’s heartlands in South Yorkshire, we can win anywhere.
“It would also send a clear message to London that we want our devolution deal. Yorkshire has been waiting long enough for some decisive action from the Government. Winning in Doncaster would make it difficult for them to ignore us for much longer.”
